Torus-native brainwave computing for the VPL era.
neuro_io maps biological neural activity into vortex-space so rotating, circulating, and coherent wave structures can be modeled as first-class computational objects inside VME. Toroidal indexing and spiral-wave operators execute natively on the VPL register machine.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE // FOUNDATION
Neural activity is not flat telemetry. It is continuous, rotating geometry.
Biological brainwaves do not propagate as isolated one-dimensional time series or disjoint spatial matrices. Across mammalian neocortical tissue, coherent electrical oscillations form rotating spiral waves, circulating phase singularities, and self-reinforcing toroidal flux fields.
Conventional compute architectures force these continuous topological structures into flat, row-major linear memory buffers. This geometric mismatch introduces severe computational penalties: edge discontinuities across sensor array boundaries, memory stride stalls, and non-deterministic cache thrashing during phase tracking.
neuro_io eliminates this impedance. Built natively for the Vortex Programming Language (VPL) platform, it inherits the complete low-level VPL Native System: the register-machine VM, linear memory model, VME vortex-space subsystem, verifier, module loader/linker, lightweight fibers, shard scheduling, cluster transport stubs, and neuro spiral-wave application modules.
Within the VME runtime, biological signal streams are bound into first-class Vortex Descriptors (V0..V31) with explicit dimensions, axis sizes, origins, strides, base addresses, element widths, and toroidal wrap semantics. Phase-wrapping arithmetic executes in single-cycle operations, enabling advanced researchers to model, analyze, encode, and decode neural fields with zero coordinate distortion.
High-density EEG, MEG, ECoG, and Neuropixels streams normalized to calibrated floating-point microvolt arrays.
Bound vortex descriptors encode 1D–27D multidimensional topologies with automatic periodic boundary conditions.
Guarantees opcode validity, stack discipline, alignment, memory bounds, and capability grants before execution.
Polynomial-time wavefield reduction, spiral tracking, and cluster transport stubs across heterogeneous computing nodes.
CAPABILITIES & PRIMITIVES
Systems-level primitives for frontier neurodynamics.
Eight foundational architectural components designed to transform raw biometric voltage flows into verifiable mathematical field computations.
Toroidal Brainwave Mapping
Maps biological neural signals into vortex descriptors with explicit multidimensional topology and toroidal addressing semantics.
Traditional neuroscience models flatten cortical fields onto Cartesian grids, introducing boundary discontinuities and coordinate shear at array edges. neuro_io projects multi-channel bioelectric potentials directly into closed and open-loop toroidal manifolds inside VME. Phase angles wrap smoothly across boundary registers, eliminating edge artifacts and enabling continuous topological tracking of macroscopic wave fronts.
Spiral-Wave Native Analytics
Hardware-class VME operations execute circulation, coherence, and phase-singularity detection in bounded polynomial time.
Dedicated ISA instructions — including VT.CIRC, VT.REDUCE, VT.SCAN, VT.COHERE, and VT.SPIRAL — provide a mathematically native substrate for wavefield analysis. Rather than calculating ad-hoc Fast Fourier Transforms over arbitrary windows, neuro_io evaluates circulating flux integrals and phase-locking coherence directly over bound vortex descriptors in constant instruction cycles.
Verifier-Gated Execution
Enforces fail-closed validation of opcode boundaries, stack discipline, alignment, and capabilities prior to execution.
Every neurocomputational routine undergoes static verifier analysis before entering the VPL runtime. The verifier validates instruction boundaries, guarantees stack depth invariance across branches, enforces linear memory permission bits, and confirms that vortex descriptors point to allocated, type-safe address spaces. Malformed or unauthorized bytecode is rejected unconditionally before execution.
Capability-Segmented Modules
Isolates signal acquisition, signal filtering, and analytical kernels into capability-scoped execution compartments.
Using the native MODLOAD, MODCALL, CAPENTER, and CAPLEAVE instructions, neuro_io strictly segments untrusted analytical routines from hardware signal ingress. Modules can only access memory regions and VME descriptors explicitly granted in their capability table. Even complex third-party neural decoders run in isolated enclaves without root access or memory snooping privileges.
Distributed Neuroanalytics
Scales massive high-channel neural recording arrays across shards and clusters with explicit synchronization bounds.
Large-scale cortical recordings spanning tens of thousands of channels are partitioned via SHARDSPLIT across dedicated hardware cores. Shards execute independent local wavefield reductions concurrently with SHARDEXEC, then reassemble global coherence topologies using SHARDJOIN. Low-latency cluster transport stubs allow seamless multi-node distributed pipelines without global locking overhead.
Research-Grade Runtime
Engineered on a deterministic register-machine VM with 64 GPRs, 64 FPRs, linear memory, and scalable cooperative fibers.
neuro_io avoids the jitter, garbage collection pauses, and non-deterministic latencies common to general-purpose scientific stacks. The VPL register machine provides 64 64-bit general-purpose registers and 64 IEEE-754 floating-point registers alongside a deterministic fiber scheduler capable of managing 16 to 1,024 concurrent data lanes in strict 16-fiber increments.
VPLO / VPM Artifact Pipeline
Compiles neurocomputational models into signed, relocatable object files and linked loadable module containers.
Pipelines are packaged as relocatable .vplo objects and linked into verified .vpm executables. Every module includes structured section headers, relocation entries, import/export symbol tables, capability requirements, and cryptographic Ed25519 manifests. Research workflows are reproducible, portable across machine targets, and cryptographically auditable.
Neuro Spiral Applications
Modular pipeline libraries optimized for cortical phase singularities, cross-frequency coupling, and wavefield modeling.
neuro_io ships with native application modules engineered for frontier computational neuroscience. Researchers can instantiate pre-verified kernels for detecting rotating spiral centers, computing spatial phase gradients, modeling non-linear neural mass fields, and validating topological invariants across continuous recording sessions.
MACHINE SPECIFICATION
Why VPL + VME for neurocomputation?
Scientific Python and general C++ neural toolkits rely on unstructured heaps, operating system thread pools, and opaque SIMD intrinsics. When scaling to high-density recordings (such as 10,000+ electrode arrays sampling at 30 kHz), memory contention and non-deterministic cache misses degrade real-time performance.
The VPL Native System re-architects compute from first principles. The execution substrate is a 64-bit register-machine virtual machine exposing a completely transparent state model:
- 64 General-Purpose Registers (R0..R63): Zero-overhead integer arithmetic, memory addressing, and fiber synchronization.
- 64 Floating-Point Registers (F0..F63): Native IEEE 754 scalar processing for raw microvolt amplitudes and instantaneous phase angles.
- Control & Capability Tables: Granular hardware-enforced permissions governing memory ranges, module calls, and external I/O.
- Bound Vortex Descriptors (V0..V31): Hardware-abstracted geometric handles defining dimensions, axis strides, origins, and toroidal wrap flags.
Inside the VME subsystem, multidimensional neurodata is never passed as bare pointers. It is bound into descriptors that carry their own topology. When an algorithm scans along an axis, the VME indexing logic automatically executes modulo-stride wrap-around in constant time. Toroidal brainwave cycles require no bounds-checking branch instructions, eliminating branch mispredictions entirely.
INTERNAL RUNTIME REGISTER REPRESENTATION
Direct descriptor binding allows instructions such as VT.SPIRAL V0, F1, F2 to compute whole-field circulation transforms without copying memory or calculating index offsets in user-space code.

Redeaux Corporation conducts rigorous systems engineering and computational physics research. neuro_io is a research-grade computational instrument intended strictly for laboratory signal modeling, topological analytics, and verified algorithmic pipelines. Redeaux makes no claims of proven human memory extraction, consciousness transfer, medical diagnostics, clinical efficacy, or regulatory clearance. Scientific progress requires disciplined methodology, transparent mathematics, and verifiable reproducibility.
FAIL-CLOSED ASSURANCE
Security-first architecture with verifier-gated boundaries.
Neural signals represent the most sensitive biometric data in existence. Running third-party analytical models on raw neural telemetry inside opaque, garbage-collected virtual machines creates intolerable attack surfaces and privacy liabilities.
Redeaux architected neuro_io as a zero-trust, fail-closed platform:
Fail-Closed Static Verifier
Bytecode is verified statically prior to execution. Any program containing invalid opcodes, stack imbalance, unaligned memory accesses, or unauthorized register writes is rejected instantly at load time.
Capability-Gated Module Compartments
Using CAPENTER and CAPLEAVE, processes operate with least privilege. A signal filtering module cannot touch network sockets, and an external decoder cannot access raw sensor buffer addresses without an explicit capability grant.
Deterministic, Non-Opaque Execution
No black-box machine learning automation or hidden runtime heuristics. Every wave operation is an explicit mathematical kernel with predictable instruction costs and mathematically bounded worst-case execution time.
Cryptographic Artifact Manifests
All compiled .vpm modules carry SHA-256 section hashes and Ed25519 signatures. The VPL module loader confirms provenance before granting execution rights.
